Project Roll Call

A Project of the WWI Internment Legacy Fund

About the Project

During Canada’s first national internment operations from 1914-1920, Ukrainians and other Europeans were branded ‘enemy aliens’ and imprisoned unjustly in 24 internment camps throughout Canada.

Project Roll Call, representing the work of numerous organizations and individuals, identifies the men, women and children who were interned in Canada during World War I. The Project also includes a collection of articles culled from numerous Canadian newspapers which provides a good point of reference on this specific historical period in Canada’s history, and a list of cemeteries where the internees who perished during the operations were interred.

The Project was funded by the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund, today known as the World War I Internment Legacy Fund. For more information on the Fund and Canada’s first national internment operations visit www.internmentcanada.ca.
